- Questions & Answers

A. Set up and operation

1. I can’t find a driver for my smartphone.

www.just-mobileonline.com > Support> Just Mobile RoKy² shows all the devices with which the Bluetooth keyboard is compatible.

2. What is pairing?

Pairing establishes a relationship between the smartphone and the Bluetooth keyboard, and should only have to be carried out once.

3. Nothing happens when I try to pair the keyboard and the smartphone.

You should always ensure that the drivers are installed before attempting to pair or connect. Please make sure that you have carefully followed the instructions in the Quick Start Guide relevant to your particular smartphone. Problems can vary with different devices and instructions for resolving them may not be the same.

4. I have followed the instructions to pair but my smartphone does not search for a Bluetooth connection.

Normally the device will search and find the keyboard and add it to the list of allowed devices. If this does not happen automatically, go to the Bluetooth Manager on your smartphone and use the manual method for pairing and connection.

5. What is the passkey?

A passkey is often required for the operation of pairing a Bluetooth keyboard with a smartphone. The passkey for the keyboard is “0000”.

6. The warning “Please make sure the fabric keyboard is turned on, Bluetooth is on and the PDA is on…” keeps coming up. What do I do?

First ensure that you follow the instructions in the message, that the keyboard is on, Bluetooth is on and no other Bluetooth devices are connected. If this is the case then switch the smartphone off and on and try again. If this fails then follow the procedure to set up a COM port as detailed in the User Guide. It may be necessary to perform a ‘soft’ reset on the smartphone and repeat the above.

7. How do I set up a COM port?

Some devices will automatically recognise the Serial Port Profile of the keyboard and set it up, whereas others require a manual setup through the Bluetooth Manager of the smartphone. Please make sure you are following the specific instructions for your particular smartphone.

8. Calibration is part of the set up procedure. What is calibration?

Calibration makes small corrections to realign the ‘virtual’ locations of the keys on the sensor to the printed keys on the fabric outer surface. You should recalibrate if you notice wrong letters or symbols appearing on screen during the use of the keyboard.

B. Use of the keyboard

1. My keyboard seems to switch off when I haven’t taken any action to make it do this.

When the smartphone disconnects, the keyboard is automatically switched off. To reconnect you need to switch the keyboard back on and click connect on your smartphone If you find this is happening frequently, you should go to the Connection Timeout on your smartphone which may be set to 5 or 10 minutes. Depending on the smartphone, you can lengthen the amount of time before it disconnects.

2. The light on my keyboard sometimes flashes very quickly and then goes off.

This signifies low battery or an automatic shutdown.

3. There is no audible feedback from the keys on my keyboard.

Audible feedback is provided through the smartphone. The default setting is “on”, however, you should check on the driver screen on your smartphone to make sure this is the case. If there is still no beep when the keys are pressed, check that the volume on your smartphone is on. You can switch the sound off completely if necessary.

4. When I press a key the wrong letter appears on the screen, or wrong function is performed.

If you find when using the keyboard that a keypress produces the wrong character or operation then you need to calibrate or recalibrate your keyboard. Go to the keyboard application on your smartphone, select options, calibrate, then follow the on screen instructions.

5. I am holding down the shift key to get a capital letter but nothing happens.

Keys on the Just Mobile?RoKy² keyboard can only operate one at a time, so the keyboard uses a system of ‘sticky’ shift keys. Every time you press shift and let go, the next letter you press will be a capital, after which the keyboard reverts to lower case.

6. I have to press quite hard to get a key to work.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the keys by connecting to the smartphone and going to Option – Settings – Preferences on the device. This allows you to test different levels of sensitivity.

7. Sometimes when I press a key the letter appears more than once/not at all.

You can adjust both Repeat rate and Repeat delay of the keys by connecting to the smartphone and going to Option – Settings – Preferences. This allows you to test different levels of sensitivity.

8. What is the battery life of the keyboard?

This is normally 10 hour continuous typing time, but this may vary depending on the type of batteries used. It is possible to extend the battery life by using the ‘timeout’ setting to turn the keyboard off automatically after a set period.

9. Is it possible to use rechargeable batteries in the keyboard?

Yes, so long as they are AAA, 1.2v type. Please remember this type of battery has a different discharge curve to standard batteries. This will (a) reduce the amount of warning you will have before the batteries run out; (b) reduce the length of typing time that the batteries will last for and (c) give inaccurate readings on the battery level indicator.

C. General

1. Can I service or repair the keyboard?

No, this will invalidate your warranty and may be dangerous.

2. My keyboard has got wet, what do I do?

If liquid has been spilled on the keyboard, remove the batteries immediately and leave in a warm (not hot) dry place. Allow to dry thoroughly. Once dry the keyboard should operate as normal. If the keyboard has been immersed or soaked in water completely the electronics may be affected.

3. Is this Keyboard compliant to international standards?

Yes – it is CE and FEE compliant.

4. How do I get updated or new drivers for my keyboard?

Visit www.just-mobileonline.com > Products> Just Mobile RoKy²> Compatibility for all updates to the compatibility of the Just Mobile?RoKy² Bluetooth keyboard.

5. What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a short-range wire replacement technology. It is a global standard that provides a low power, short-range radio link in the 2.4Ghz band. It has protection from interference and has a level of security. It will operate with a device even when the transceiver and device are not in direct line of sight of each other.

6. Is Bluetooth available everywhere in the world?

The 2.4 GHz (ISM) band is available globally for Bluetooth, however, there may be local restrictions such as when travelling in aircraft or some local requirements preventing its use. Always make sure you conform to local guidance when using a Bluetooth device.

7. What is the range of Bluetooth?

The wireless keyboard uses a class 2 module which has a range of 10m. This is dependent on battery condition and any objects in between which may absorb radio waves. Normal use is limited by the screen size of the smartphone or PDA to approximately 1m.

8. What is the risk of interference?

Bluetooth technology operates in such a way as to minimize interference, however, if there are many devices in your local area using the unlicensed 2.4Ghz band, connection and response times can be extended.

9. What products is the Bluetooth wireless keyboard compatible with?

The Bluetooth keyboard is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows Mobile 2003 (Smartphone and pocket PC), Windows Mobile 2005 (smartphone and pocket PC), Symbian, Palm Garnet and RIM BlackBerry. Eleksen is constantly testing devices running on these systems for compatibility. For a full listing of compatible devices, Visit www.just-mobileonline.com > Products> Just Mobile RoKy²> Compatibility

10. What is the class of Bluetooth in the keyboard?

Class 2

11. Can I use the Bluetooth Keyboard with my PC?

There are no drivers currently available to use the Just Mobile?RoKy² wireless keyboard with a PC.

12. Can I use my Bluetooth Headset while using the keyboard?

Normally no. The Bluetooth link will be used with the data transmissions from the keyboard.
